The condition of sore teeth and gums is one of the most common dental health concern all over the world. It does not only affect our conspicuousness to others, but it may make eating a very painful experience, which in turn, may give rise to other health concerns. Factors which are known to be the common causes of sore teeth and gums include canker sores, gum disease, receding gums, teething, impacted teeth and injury.
Sore Teeth and Gums Causes
Taking on one of the common causes of this condition, canker sores are lesions which tend to develop at the base of the gums and on the soft tissues in the mouth. These shallow lesions can can cause gums to sore and can make eating and talking difficult.
Due to obvious reasons, gum diseases would inevitably cause sore teeth and gums as one of its symptoms. Sore teeth after cleaning which may include brushing or flossing, could be an indication of a gum disease.
Receding gums can be attributed as a severe form of a gum disease, which causes soreness of gums and teeth. As the name suggests, this condition is characterized by the gums getting separated from the surface of the teeth.
Baby teething is one of the inevitable causes of sore teeth and gums. This process involves the teeth forcing their way through the gum surface, and it usually ends in childhood.
Impacted wisdom teeth do not have enough space to emerge or grow normally. As a result, such a growth may damage other teeth, and cause various dental problems including sore teeth and gums.
And needless to say, any injury to the teeth or gums caused by falls or with an impact of a hard object, may also cause the condition. It is common for hockey or football players to suffer from sore gums and teeth. This is the reason why they are advised to use mouth guards.

Yellow Teeth Causes

Pure white teeth are very rare. These days, models and actor-actresses, even common people regularly opt for teeth whitening methods. Natural color of our teeth is slightly yellowish and not pure white. The yellowness of teeth varies from person to person. So, what causes yellow teeth? Yellow teeth causes can be extrinsic (caused by external factors) or intrinsic (caused by internal factors). Commonly noticed yellow teeth causes are discussed below.
Causes of Yellow Teeth
- Lack of Hygiene: Lack of dental hygiene or lack of proper dental care is the main cause of yellow teeth. Many children or even elderly people brush their teeth in the morning but they do not brush their teeth before going into bed. Flossing after eating, brushing your teeth at least twice everyday is absolutely essential if you wish to maintain the white color of your teeth. Flossing and brushing is necessary to remove plaque and stain-producing substances. Cleanliness also helps avoid bad breath and tooth decay.
- Genetic Factors: If you have yellow teeth right from your childhood, then the yellow color can be due to genetic factors. You can consult your dentist for knowing natural ways to whiten teeth. The dentist will also provide information on how to bleach teeth at home. Genetic factors leading to weak tooth structure right from birth, can also cause yellow teeth. Ill-formed enamel (the hard surface of the teeth) or dentin (the layer under the enamel) is an example of weak tooth structure.
- Food and Beverages: Consumption of too much soda pop can remove the white enamel of your teeth. Similarly, consumption of excessive amount of sugar (cakes, chocolates, desserts, sweetened juices and soft drinks, etc.) can also remove the outer coating of your teeth and your teeth may turn yellow. Another main culprit is caffeine. Those who often drink tea or coffee tend to have much yellower teeth than non-drinkers.
